Shinyanga Regional Administrative Secretary, CP Salum Hamduni, cuts the ribbon to officially hand over to the government a 15-stall toilet project constructed by Water for Good.

Water for Good has constructed 15 modern toilet stalls at Masekelo Primary School located in Bukene Ward, Shinyanga District Council, a move that has enabled more than 400 students to overcome the challenge of inadequate safe sanitation facilities and improve the learning environment.

Speaking during the handover of the project on June 2, 2026, Water for Good Director, Devocatus Kamala, said the construction of the toilets was undertaken after it was discovered that the school had worn-out infrastructure that was causing significant inconvenience.

He said that before the implementation of the project, some students were forced to return home to relieve themselves while others had to wait for long periods to use the existing toilets, a situation that affected their study time.

“We have ensured that children get a better learning environment and the toilet challenge at this school has come to an end. We have built 15 modern toilet stalls,” said Kamala.

Apart from this project, Kamala said the organization has also built a dispensary in Sumbigu Village to bring health services closer to the community, with the two projects costing more than TZS 56 million.

He noted that since 2021, Water for Good has built 22 toilet facilities with a total of 93 stalls in various schools, benefiting more than 6,000 students.

Shinyanga Regional Administrative Secretary, CP Salum Hamduni, said the construction of the toilets will help increase academic performance and eliminate the problem of inadequate toilet infrastructure.

He thanked development partners, particularly Water for Good, for their contribution to improving the education and health sectors and helping communities access essential services closer to where they live.
